Privacy Policy

The short version: We collect only what's needed to track your food spending. We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. You can export or delete everything at any time.
Who we are
BiteSpend is operated by Gorkhabots LLC. When we say "we," "us," or "our," we mean Gorkhabots LLC. When we say "you" or "your," we mean you, the person using BiteSpend.
What we collect
When you use BiteSpend, we collect:
- Account information: Your name and email address from Google Sign-In. We use this to identify your account.
- Expense data: Vendor names, dates, amounts, categories, and line items that you enter manually or that are extracted from receipt scans.
- Receipt images: Photos of receipts you scan. These are processed to extract item data and may be stored for your reference.
- Budget settings: Your monthly grocery and dining budgets and savings goals.
- Device information: Basic device type and platform (Android/iOS) for app functionality and troubleshooting.
How we use your data
- Expense tracking: To show you what you spend on food, where, and when.
- Budget management: To track your spending against your monthly goals.
- Smart insights: To generate personalized savings recommendations based on your spending patterns.
- Price comparison: To compare prices of items you buy across different stores, using only your own purchase history.
AI and receipt processing
When you scan a receipt, the image is processed using optical character recognition (OCR) and AI language models to extract item names, prices, and vendor information.
Important: AI processing is stateless. Your receipt data is not used to train any AI models. Each scan is processed independently and the AI does not retain your data between scans.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your personal data to anyone.
- We don't share your data with advertisers.
- We don't use your data to train AI models.
- We don't track your location.
- We don't access your bank accounts or financial institutions.
- We don't show your data to other users (unless you explicitly share it in a future feature).
Data storage and security
Your data is stored on secure servers. We use HTTPS for all data transmission. Your account is protected by Google's authentication system.
Your rights
You have full control over your data:
- Export: You can export all your data at any time from Settings → Your Data → Export My Data.
- Delete: You can permanently delete all your expenses, budgets, and recommendations from Settings → Your Data → Delete All My Data.
- Account: You can sign out at any time. To request full account deletion, email us.
Camera permission
BiteSpend requests camera access solely to take photos of receipts for scanning. We do not access your camera in the background or for any other purpose.
Analytics
Our website (bitespend.com) uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use our site. This collects anonymous usage data such as page views and referral sources. The mobile app does not include third-party analytics trackers.
Children
BiteSpend is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
